Books you can trust. Reporting that ships on time.

I’m a fractional controller for founders without a finance team. I set up the close, the reconciliations, and the reporting, built on automation so it keeps running without a team to maintain it.

10 years in finance · ex-ClassPass · took a venture-backed company through its first audit

You’re a founder, not a finance person.

You’re running the business, and finance is a pile of spreadsheets, a scramble every month-end, and a nagging feeling there’s a better way. There is. I build it, so you can get back to the parts only you can do.

Your close takes a week and nothing is automated.

Reconciliations by hand, reports rebuilt every month. I build AI-enabled close, reconciliation, and reporting workflows, so your team reviews the exceptions instead of re-keying the rest.

What typically gets fixed.

Every engagement is different, and the diagnostic sets the order. These are the areas I work on most.

Month-end close

A close calendar, a checklist, and journal entries that post on schedule. From a multi-day scramble to a close that finishes on a known date.

Reconciliations

Bank, card, and balance-sheet accounts reconciled every month. Matches are automated; exceptions come to a person.

Revenue recognition

Deferred revenue, deposits, and the schedules behind them, set up once and rolled forward every month.

Reporting

Financial statements and a short monthly narrative: what changed and why, ready for you to review.

The one I love

First-year audits

A startup’s first audit is brutal, and it’s one of my favorite things to get a company through. I’ve taken a company through its first one, and every year-end since. If that’s on your horizon, I’m the person you want in the room.

One engagement, four phases.

No rate card, and no quote before I’ve looked at your books. Every phase is a fixed fee and stands on its own.

  1. Free first step: Intro call

30 minutes. Tell me where the books stand. I’ll tell you whether I can help and what the diagnostic would cover.

  2. Phase 0: Diagnostic

I look at your books before I quote anything. You get a written findings report, and the fee is credited against Phase 1.

  3. Phase 1: Stabilize

Financials you can trust, and your nearest deadline met: the tax filing, the lender, the audit.

  4. Phase 2: Rebuild

The system: chart of accounts, close calendar, reconciliations, and reporting, built on automation and designed for you to own.

  5. Phase 3: Uplevel

I hand it over, train your team, and stay on as your fractional controller.

I’ve done all of this by hand. That’s why the automation actually works.

I’m Emily. Ten years in finance: public accounting, six years at ClassPass through three funding rounds and an acquisition, and now Controller at a venture-backed healthcare company. I’ve built and run accounting functions, closes, audits, and reporting by hand. Now I use AI to do that work faster, which is why a one-person practice can deliver it at a fixed fee, and why what I build keeps running after I hand it over.
